Kicking off the first in the “Ask Short-e” series. First question is from David:
Hi dj short- e. I really liked your video tutorials. Im a newbie at turntables and im looking to improve on it with the right records to scratch. I heard most beginners prefer longer sample. Im just wondering that sample record did you use on the chirp flare tutorial video. I might buy it if they have it online and practice with it. Thanks.
David
Hey David
Glad you liked the tutorials.
I used superseal by thudrumble / qbert / dirtstyle in the chrip flare tutorial:

“Ahhhhh” is a great sound to start with as it is a long sample. This gives you more time to carry out the scratch. Superseal is skipless so it’s good for learning. That sample is on most battle / scratch records also.
Hope that helps!

Hi

Could you please tell me what break sample you use on your youtube ‘hamster stab’ vid.
I have the can’t find it anywhere insanity
Thanks…
hey Bryce its Superseal as above.
Hi,
I have that, its the break sample your scratching over, if i search youtube hamster stabs, yours is the first tutorial link. Make any sense?
Hey Bryce! That is beat number 9020 from the instrumental beats for scratching series I produced. You can get it here:
http://studioscratches.myshopify.com/products/90-bpm-hip-hop-instrumental-beats
or the full 200 beats for scratch practice are here:

Hope that helps if not just comment back!
I recently got 100 MPH Backsliding Turkey Kutz from Dirtstyle and I like it a lot. There are a ton of samples on the A side. It’s not skipless, so Super Seal would be a better choice for beginners, but it’s definitely a good record for any scratch nerd.
Happy scratching,
Keith
