It is with great sadness today I learnt of the passing of David Holmes aka Dee Swift.
Dee is a true legend in the scratch scene and one of the nicest guys you’d ever meet. Although we never met in real life, I spent many an hour chatting scratching and bigger life stuff to dee on msn and he was always quick to offer support with whatever you needed.
Thoughts and prayers go out to Jodi and the rest of his family and extended scratch family.
I leave you with his classic scratch track that was never released, Stretched Animal Skin Drum containing pure scratch genius. RIP DEE! xxx

that scratching is sick! R.I.P
nice one short-e for putting this up, dee was my cousin and we played music together for years,we played at glastonbury festival in 92 ,with no rehearsals!(only dee could do this!) he was an inspiration on any instrument, and has inspired many people,i include myself in this too, a true musician, everything he did was perfect,it had to be,right down to his writing, dees passing has a been a massive shock to all the family, and we are still coming to terms with it all.
so once again thanx for putting this up mate,we are grateful that you are remembering him in this way,and its a great opportunity to get to hear him again,as he didn’t record much , which is a great shame and a loss in its self! my kind regards to you, j
hey pigdog. Thanks for sharing your memories. There are quite a few audio files surfacing around the net and the whole scratch community has been remembering. Again, sympathies and love to all your fam. – Short-e
I have only just found out about this, by literally stumbling upon the info. I am absolutley devastated bythis news, me and dave were close friends 2000-2003. We spent many hours cutting and chilling in his loft room in sheffield. I am so gutted i dont really know what to say.
If anyone knows how i can contact his peeps, please let me know
Looch real sorry again mate. Drop me a mail on the contact form I have Jodi’s details. xxx
Wow. I randomly stumbled on this site today and clicked on a link that read “DeeSwift Cuts” and read in the intro paragraph that he had passed. I remember surfing the internet forums when I was on 6th grade, going on scratchcon, snatchcon, asisphonics, and dstyles forum. He would post up cuts like this one and I was so blown away by his cuts. He was such an inspiration for me at a really young age.
I even had a e-mail correspondence with him because I remembered him saying he played guitar on one of the forums, so I randomly e-mailed him and he responded with a a really detailed and helpful response about different kinds of guitars — more advice then I expected really.
I never knew the guy, but he played part of my life through his scratching and his help. Seemed like a real nice fella.
Peace and Respect DeeSwift. Thanks for everything.
ticklethewax – yeh its real sad. I’m super glad that you got to experience what Dee was all about. Helping people. RIP Dee xxx
