This week, I teach you how to do the Chirp Flare scratch.
The Chirp Flare scratch is a “combo” scratch combining a chirp then a flare. You can one click flare or 2 click flare then chirp. Please see the other scratch tutorial videos for how to flare and chirp.
Once you have the basics down, experiment with timings and swing. Flare forwards and back. Next time I will show you how to do what I call the “Short-e Special” scratch!
The beat is #8546 taken from the Studio Scratches Beats for Scratch Practice Vol. 1 series. Perfect for practicing your scratching!

Good scratching Short-e. keep up the good work.
I also liked the girls get loud mix you did recently, much wickedness
Do you do any house tunes type of mixing, stuff with a bit faster bpm, say about 130 to 150 ish or do you just mix tunes that are your personal preference .
Stu…
p.s looking forward to the Shore-e special scratching
Thanks Stuart.
That mix wasn’t mine I think you mean Shortee from the USA.
Glad you like the scratching though! PEACE!
Daaaaang those two click combos at the end are clean….
Cheers Rob! I heard Rob Swift do those once and it inspired me. – Short-e
Hey you say:
You can one click flare or 2 click flare then chirp.
I guess it is the other way around frist the chirp then the flare…one click..like D Styles invented it back in the day`s. But you can do it with 2 or 3 clicks as well. Anyway there are many ways to do that combo and bring own flavour into it.
Good scratching Short-e

Hey Tim. Thanks for commenting.
You can chirp or flare first whatever you feel like really, thats the beauty!
Have fun cutting it up! PEACE!
Great video! I can definitely hear a difference when you do the swing version of the the combo, but how would you describe it in words? I can’t seem to get it
Hey Teetu – its basically a triplet pattern 1-2-3-4-5-6 1-2-3-4-5-6 kinda hard to explain in words. 1-2-3-4 is the flare forward and back and 5-6 is the chirp. Hope that makes sense. Can anyone explain better than that? PEACE
