An inspirational scratch DJ story on pursuing your dreams that I wanted to share with you:

So the bad news…….I have cut for 2 hours in the last 5 weeks.

The good news……I just moved 700 kms to Vancouver BC to pursue my dreams! I have just slept on couches and been without my dog Atrayu for the last 5 weeks while getting set up in Van city. I am from vancouver Island but have been living in the far north interior for the last year while working in the bush. I have worked in the bush for 8 years at various jobs from treeplanting to Layout Engineering. Up there I was the only dj for well over 100 kms and other than QSU had little to no interaction with other dj’s except when I travelled back to my condo on Vancouver Island. In my spare time I got certified as a Personal Trainer. I also took a top 40 residency (that I did not enjoy to say the least) for the last 3 months to get extra money. Finally saving up enough money I gave notice at my job and packed my bags for the city!!!

Within 2 days I had a job as a personal trainer and 2 weeks after that I scored a sweet bachelor pad in downtown Vancouver, 2 blocks from the beach! I just got back from a 1400 km round trip drive with a dodgy rented u-haul trailer on my truck and am finally settled, with my dog, in the new pad. Decks are currently getting set up, I also bought two new techs so now I have those and my two TTX1′s along with my serato setup, macbook pro and rane ttm-56 the studio is coming along nicely.

It has been a hard go and losing out on 5 weeks of practice broke my heart but it has all been worth it. I have already booked 2 solid gigs. I am playing a 2 day party on a small island off the coast with 17 other dj’s and am headlining a 2 stage party for halloween on vancouver island. On top of that I am surrounded by musical inspiration and other dj’s now. I am also enrolling in night classes at a music production school to learn from masters how to make the music I love instead of sitting at home smashing my head against the wall trying to figure it out myself stuck in the middle of nowhere :)

I just have one piece of advice…….follow your heart and the universe will open its arms for you! All I needed was patience and ambition and everything fell into place. I am damn glad to be back I missed y’all. Best of luck to all of you in your future endeavours!

Peace,

Grasp.

Thank you kindly, well worth the effort. Patience is not my string suit but I’m doing what I can :)
